Background of the Study
Malaria remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Nigeria, with health education playing a crucial role in prevention efforts (WHO, 2024). Health education aims to increase awareness, promote preventive behaviors, and encourage early treatment-seeking practices (NCDC, 2023).
Kwara State has a high malaria burden, with many residents relying on traditional medicine rather than proven preventive measures such as insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) (Akinola & Yusuf, 2024). Studies suggest that effective health education programs can improve malaria prevention practices, reducing disease transmission (Adepoju et al., 2023).
Statement of the Problem
Despite numerous malaria control interventions, the disease remains prevalent in Kwara State due to poor awareness and inconsistent preventive behaviors. Many residents do not use ITNs or seek timely treatment due to misconceptions and traditional beliefs (Eze & Mohammed, 2024). This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of health education in improving malaria prevention practices.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the impact of health education on malaria prevention practices in Kwara State.
2. To identify factors affecting the adoption of malaria preventive measures.
3. To recommend strategies for improving malaria prevention through health education.
Research Questions
1. How effective is health education in improving malaria prevention practices in Kwara State?
2. What factors influence the adoption of malaria preventive measures?
3. What strategies can enhance malaria prevention through health education?
Research Hypotheses
1. Health education significantly improves malaria prevention practices.
2. Socio-cultural factors influence the adoption of malaria preventive measures.
3. Strengthening health education programs will reduce malaria prevalence.
